The film was directed by Srinu Vaitla and produced by Nagesh Kukunoor, Mukesh and Vivek Murthy. The film stars Mahesh Babu in the lead role, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Tabu, Anjana Sriram and Rajendra Prasad. It is a remake of the Tamil movie Vembu. The film was remade in Hindi as Lage Raho Munna Bhai in 2006 with Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukerji and Jimmy Shergill in the lead. The film is a remake of 1999's Hindi film Dil To Pagal Hai.
Plot
Shiva and Shakthi are a happy couple. Shakthi is the daughter of a big industrialist, Anjaneyulu Ramakrishna, but Shiva is the son of a village man. Shiva and Shakthi live in a big house, which belongs to Anjaneyulu Ramakrishna and his only daughter Rani, who is very possessive about her father.
One day, when Shakthi was coming out of the bathroom, she finds Shiva inside the bathroom. Angered and embarrassed, Shakthi scolds Shiva, and he leaves home. On the way, he sees Rani and falls in love with her at first sight. Shiva and Shakthi go to Shankar's home and try to convince him to get Shiva married to Rani, but it is a ruse and they join forces to work their plans. Shiva meets Rani and the both of them fall in love, but Rani is very possessive and does not want him to get close to her. Shiva and Shakthi arrange for a match between Shakthi and Shiva's friend Siva Reddy. However, Rani overhears Shiva and Shakthi talking about the match and warns her father that he will have to face the music. Shiva and Shakthi meet Rani, but she does not let them meet her father. However, later Rani is forced to agree to the match. On the wedding day, Shiva is in a dilemma: Should he marry Rani or Shakthi?
